A week of so ago, I had the pleasure of having a phone chat with DJ Raine of HomeGrown Radio. In case you missed it, DJ Raine kindly sent us a recording which I’ve included below. I had a blast discussing everything from past a’tris tours to our current #songaweek project and hope you’ll enjoy the interview.
Our #songaweek project continues to generate great buzz and has also created more interest in past works.
This week, we’re honored to be a featured artist on MBTV. MBTV is currently playing “Dark Lotus” and is also featuring a still from Reza Dolatabadi’s fantastic work on their website’s homepage.
If you’d like to see our video stay on MBTV’s playlist, you can vote for it under their ‘viewer’s choice’ section here.
A few days ago, I had a chat with Patrick from one of our favorite music blogs, the Muse in Music. I’m not just saying that because they’ve been a big supporter of our previous work and new #songaweek project. But that definitely doesn’t hurt.
Were you aware that a’tris settles most of its creative differences through knife fights? Would you like to know what Justin Timberlake and I have in common? Read my interview with tMiM to find out.
Be sure to check back in on tMiM in a few weeks if you like free stuff. Their March giveaway is going to include some pretty sweet a’tris merch.
Our friend Pierre Masse [Official, Myspace] recently shared his cover of our first #songaweek demo, “Don’t Shoot the Messenger” with us and I think you guys are going to really dig his take on it. I can’t tell you what an honor it is to be able to hear our tunes reinterpreted. If you missed our video, you can check it out here. Also, be sure to give Tiger Darrow’s [Official, Myspace] cover an ear by following this link.
Here’s what Pierre had to say about his version:
Here is my cover of a’tris’ first song-a-week demo, Don’t Shoot the Messenger. I tried to play around with it and ended up adding two minutes to the original length… Oops! I also don’t do the vocals justice but to be honest it’s insanely hard to match Mason’s expertise in that domain. I’ve just tried to have fun with the arrangement because that’s what doing covers is all about. Anyways, hope you like it!
Isn’t he great? Thanks for your kind words and cover Pierre!
Allison at OurStage just posted a piece about OurStage artists who are gearing up for 2011 releases. First artist tagged on the list, yours truly. Check out what she had to write about us below. You can read about some of the other great acts who were featured by clicking here.
Thanks Allison!
A’tris – OurStage resident rockers A’tris have been a constant fixture on the OS charts since debuting in the Music Video Channel in 2008. Since then they’ve gained recognition in genres across the board, including alternative, electronic, electro-pop and rock, in addition to going strong with videos. Suffice it to say they’ve got a ton of material, so their plan for putting out a new demo every week in 2011 seems totally appropriate. The band is asking for fans feedback on each track and will eventually use all that input to put together their new album. You can read blog posts and descriptions of the demos when they’re released each week right on A’tris’ Web site.

The above video consists of clips from Fritz Lang‘s silent masterpiece, Metropolis. To download free music and a karaoke version of this one, visit a’tris HQ and sign-up for our mailing list. To submit a cover, you can post a video response in our comment section. Please find the lyrics to this week’s tune below. We’re not going to even try to map out the chords but, if you’d like to, we’d love to hear what you come up with.
“As a Monster” is the song I was referencing. The credit really goes to Mike and Nate for this one. Mike stumbled across the news article I shared and his first effort to songify it with Nate was spot on. Schmoyoho would be proud.

Week 3 is now live! This week’s tune is called “Bird of Prey” and I think you’re really going to like it. I wrote the lyrics to this one after reading an article about a missing person who went to her day job one night and never returned. There were no signs of struggle at her workplace. The only clue to her disappearance was a polaroid photo that was taken of her and left on the counter. My heart went out to the girl’s family when I read this and some of my concern manifested itself in song form.
As usual, I have Mike and Nate to thank for the instrumentation here. Without their eerie chord progression and arrangement, this song wouldn’t exist.

Last year I shared a cover of “Automatic Doors” with you that our friend, Tiger Darrow, was so kind to record for us. In case you missed it, you can check it out here.
This year, Tiger has outdone herself! Please find her version of “Don’t Shoot the Messenger,” the first song from our #songaweek project, after the jump.
In a message to us, Tiger had this to say about her version:
I’ve been listening to a ton of Bon Iver lately, and kind of decided to do something
reminiscent of their style…
While I can definitely hear the Bon Iver influence, I think this is Tiger Darrow all the way. Her vocals are impeccable and she truly has a gift for being able to totally capture a moment in a song. I hope you will all enjoy this as much as I did. I can’t tell you what an honor it is to have another artist – especially one as gifted as Tiger – cover our material.
