MUJI in My Life

One of the many things that excited me about moving to NYC was that one of my favorite designer stores, MUJI, was only a half an hour away from me! I have been a big fan of MUJI catalogs for years now. Their products have a beautiful Japanese aesthetic that is both minimalistic and elegant. Everything they sell just seems to be made with thought and purpose. I know – I’m dorking out over a store that sells aluminum trash cans and stylish storage containers – but trust me, once you go to their Manhattan store, I think you will too :)

I must admit, while I’ve dug MUJI’s stuff for ages, I’d never purchased many of their products. Most of the places I’d rented were already furnished. Or I was traveling so much that I didn’t see the point in buying things that I wouldn’t use frequently. Now I feel like I’m at a place in my life where these things seem to matter more though. And, why not celebrate a new apartment with a little shopping spree, right? There’s nothing wrong with some self-indulgence from time to time, I told myself. So I definitely loaded up on some super cool stuff.

After I finished my shopping, I saw a brochure for a contest called MUJI in your life at the checkout. When I got home, I snapped a quick photo and entered on a whim. I’m excited to let you know that my entry was recently posted on MUJI’s US site! You can find it, along with an a’tris plug (can you blame me?) ;) directly off the home page! I’ve included a screen shot of it at the top of this post. You can also check it out at Muji by clicking the following direct link..

How cool is that?

Hope this finds you feeling healthy!

For some reason that part made me laugh. I blame stress. Haha.
Seriously though, that place sounds awesome. I dig the minimalist approach for sure. Maybe I should take a look at the web catalog?
It’s kind of rad that you’re starting out with an unfurnished apartment too. Total blank slate. Of course, that could be a disadvantage in some ways… A bit inconvenient at times, anyway. ;)

It definitely has taken a little doing to move some of this stuff around; but you’re totally right, it is really great to start from a blank slate~ You should see the kitchen table I just bought! It is super sexy. I should post a picture of it. Just don’t want to publicly dork out too much ;)

Awww, but you’re so cute when you’re dorking out over something ;)
I can see your point, though. Haha. You could always create a seperate blog for talking about your new place- Tumblr, maybe. It’s good for more photo-oriented posts.

That’s true. But I have few free hours in the day. That would cause me to cut in to my reading time. Wouldn’t want to do that. I’m a firm believer that the best writers are readers.

        True story.

Oh, reading time is definitely important. I’m stoked right now cause I found a copy of Raise High The Roof Beam, Carpenters by J.D. Salinger. I already have Catcher In The Rye, Franny and Zooey, and Nine Stories… Now I just have to try and get the short stories. Should be interesting. So yeah. I encourage reading at all times. Haha.
