Three Must-See Short Films

Over the last couple of days I’ve stumbled across some fantastic short films. Here are a couple of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them as I did!

Pivot is an incredible short designed and animated by: Kevin Megens, Floris Vos, Arno de Grijs, André Bergs with music and sound design by Alex Debicki. As you can tell from the above screen shot, it’s incredibly stylistic; but don’t let the visuals mislead you, there’s a great story in its frames too. Here’s a brief synopsis I found on the film’s Vimeo page:

When a man is witness to a murder and takes pictures of the killer, he has to run for his life. During the chase he is able to turn the tables and the prey becomes the hunter. All resulting in an unfortunate ending.

This one is definitely a must-see. You can watch it in its entirety by clicking here. Thanks to Freshnerd.com for turning me on to this!

Not too long ago, I wrote about a site I discovered called Peta Pixel in my entry, Does the Average Person Recognize Great Art? If you didn’t check out what they are doing then, here’s another great reason to. Michael Zhang, recently continued his streak of sharing seriously awesome art with his post, A Day in the Life of New York City in which he wrote about The Sandpit an unbelievable short film by Sam O’Hare that shows New York City in miniature. Before clicking over, be prepared to have your mind blown.

I’d write that I saved the best for last here, but there really is no way to compare these films. Each one is incredibly bracing and creative, but I think it’s fair to say that none is perhaps more unique and beautiful than Bruce Branit’s World Builder. I can’t recall where I came across this but, if you like it, I hope you’ll share with your friends that you found it here! This is the kind of visual art that my bandmates and I do our very best to create sonically.

What did you think of these? Have you seen any great clips that you think everyone would enjoy? I hope you’ll take a moment to share your thoughts with us.

All the best!

-Mason
