I recently began using Google Voice and I’m hooked. Google has done a great job of making voicemails more manageable, and I’m extremely grateful for that. Feel free to read about my favorite features below (if you’re into tech stuff like me) or scroll on down to the bottom of this post to get to the meat and potatoes.
1. Personalized Greetings: Google Voice allows you to create a personalized message for a specific person or group of contacts. This is really handy because it allows you to record a professional greeting for your business contacts and a casual one for friends and family. You could also use this to screw with people; but that wouldn’t be nice.
2. E-mail Notification: Thanks to Google Voice, you can receive an e-mail notification whenever someone leaves you a voicemail. The cool thing about this is that every e-mail Google Voice sends you includes an MP3 of the caller’s message. Now you can really embarrass your friends if they drunk dial you!
3. Voicemail Transcription: This is by far the coolest feature. Every time someone leaves a message Google Voice can analyze it and can send you a transcript. How sweet is that? The only hitch is the transcripts aren’t particularly accurate. But who cares? They’re entertaining! And isn’t that what really counts?
The meat and potatoes: Since I can now manage my messages more easily, I’d like to invite you to leave me one! I think this could be a fun way to make this blog more interactive, and I invite you to use it any way you’d like. Feel free to ring me to comment on an entry, ask a question about life and the universe, or leave me your favorite Jack Handy quote. Whatever makes you happy! I can’t promise that I’ll return your call, but if Google Voice’s transcript looks like a Mad Lib (and trust me some of them can get pretty silly), you can bet that it may find its way into a future post!
To leave me a message, just visit the contact page on our official website, a’tris HQ, click the speech bubble next to my mug, and then enter your name and phone number into the window that appears. When you click connect, Google will automatically call your phone and direct you to my voice box. That’s all there is to it.
What do you think of my idea? I hope to see your thoughts in the comment section or hear them via Google Voice
Hope this finds you feeling healthy!
-Mason

Hey Angie,
Thanks so much for your super sweet message! It was great to hear from you. How’s Bradford treating you? Are you getting as much snow there as I’m seeing here?
Found healthy

Mason,
No problem I didn’t know what to say so I rambled hehe. Bradford is COLD not to be blunt but the saying I would use is.. “It’s colder than a snowman’s ass…” We only have about six or so inches of snow though more is coming, but because Bradford is in a valley like area we’re gonna keep it longer and it’s gonna make it colder. The roads are slushy which isn’t good considering some people drive like maniacs, and people don’t know how to shovel their sidewalks!! ^_^ Other than that it’s all good I guess. How are things on your end?

I believe you
I remember that it was pretty chilly when we met you there.
I totally hear you about the sidewalks. Street parking can be a real mess too. I hope you and your car stay safe!
Things here are going really well thanks! We’re working on a pretty cool little project…

Heh thankfully I have just my feet to get me going places. I borrowed a friend’s cargo van to do a few errands the other day and ended up driving 10-15 in a 35MPH zone. It was brutal. It’s actually better today the sun is shining but it’s still snowing and cold.
I hope the project comes out great! ^_^

Man, that is brutal. You probably could have done your errands faster on foot. But then there’s the problem of carrying things, and you definitely don’t want to go for a spill with your hands full. There really is no way to play off a fall if the eggs you just bought are on your face.
Thanks! So far, so good. We’re pretty jazzed about it. Keep an eye on this space for some announcements in the not too distant future

Hehe so true! Its’ all good though I’m staying inside most of the time the last few days doing dishes off and on so I can get them boxed up and donated to goodwill. We don’t need em and it’s the new kick in my life. Donate Donate Donate ^_^ Gonna go through some mismatched sheets and do the same thing. I will definitely keep my eyes open for your announcements. I will have to get some pics up at some point soon I have the short hair cut i’ts an inch or two off my shoulders or was lol and NOW as of last night it’s reddish purple again after four months of black/brown. It’s taking some getting used to but it’s all good. Needed the change!

That’s awesome that you’re donating your stuff! Reduce, reuse, recycle – I like it
Hoorah for hair dye. I don’t know if you were able to really make out my hair in the pic I included in my recent recipe post but I just had some highlights done in anticipation of better weather. Now I’m just waiting for this snow to melt
