How Do You Discover New Music?

As I may have mentioned in a past post, I’m a huge fan of NetNewsWire [Official]. Everyday I launch it I find all kinds of cool articles (conveniently organized by subject) eagerly awaiting my ever inquisitive eyes. Lately though, I haven’t had much free time so my poor friend and RSS reader went unopened. Until today.

When I initially downloaded NetNewsWire I took its name literally and used it to primarily subscribe to news feeds you know, like CNN, my local newspaper, and the Onion :) I’m so glad that I grew to appreciate its full potential. I now use it to pull from blogs and image feeds focused on a wide range of subjects. Can you guess what my most favorite category is? Hint: It’s what I do for a living.

I love music blogs and one of my favorites is Radioexile [Official]. Our friend Shawn Smith and his staff have created a site that really puts a spotlight on the cream of the crop of today’s independent and mainstream bands and I’ve discovered a lot of great artists through their site.

Here are a couple of their most recent posts. Check ‘em out! Finding Much to Love in CAVES Video Hook-Up: Muse – “The Resistance” Rogue Wave Release “Good Morning” Video Hook-Up: Maps – “Die Happy, Die Smiling” Rap is F#cked

How do you discover new music? What are your favorite music blogs? I’d love to get your thoughts so drop us a line in the comment section.

Hope this finds you feeling healthy!

one of my favorite bands is Hanson. and they are very interactive with their fans. they are constantly putting messages on their website/forums of new bands they’ve heard that they like. plus, i go to a lot of their concerts, and they have some great openers.
Hanson has a section on their forums dedicated to music other then their own. a lot of fans post on there about bands they like. i’ve found quite a few interesting artists through there. ((i’ve mentioned a’tris on there a few times)).
mostly, it’s through other musicians that i hear about new music. bands and artists that i am a fan of post comments via twitter, myspace, facebook, etc. when a band/artist that i’m not familiar with is mentioned, i usually go check them out.

Thanks Niqui! I really appreciate you helping us promote our music. That’s really cool that Hanson provides exposure opportunities for other artists and are interactive with their fans. It’s always more fun when information is shared in both directions instead of just one :) On that note, thanks for your comment!
